I'm also looking for a way to delete my account since ages! (actually since the Mark III debacle)

Is it too much to ask that users are not held hostages by adding a "delete my account" option in the settings?

Take a look at this thread
wrote Posted on July 20, 2008 (permalink)
I took a look at the thread, and at every thread I can find with others in the similarly irritating position of being unable to delete this account... but I don't see anything helpful there.

Has anyone been able to successfully able to delete their account or are we all still being held hostage?

Reading the various threads about this topic, isn't it about time to hear an official statement on that?

"We're working on it" is just not enough.

Serious services offer both sign-up AND delete functionality.
wrote Posted on July 24, 2008 (permalink)
You've heard the official word on it. Please be patient. Complaining will not make it happen faster.
wrote Posted on July 25, 2008 (permalink)
Wrong. From what i have seen in the previous posts about that being patient and politely asking wont get you anywhere. So actually complaining seems to be the only way out.

People are not asking for hard-to-implement-ueber-feature xyz anyway. Opt-out is not something users should ever need to BEG for. It should be there right from the start. Talking about data privacy&protection, privacy laws anyone?

Man this is so damn irritating.
Here's the story, and I bet I'm not alone.
I had a nice party yesterday and various people took pics with their cameras. So I was looking to open an account on a photo sharing service and share it with other people to gather everyone's pics of the party.
So I tried out Zoomr to see what could be different here.

First problem: I CAN'T EVEN UPLOAD A SINGLE PIC!
I've got ~4MB sized pictures, I guess a common thing in 2008 with all these XX millions pixels cameras.
When I try to upload a pic I've got some weird "file too small read the manifest" or whatever error. The message just disappears within half a second so I guess I'll never know for sure.
So I tried to look for a FAQ or for a HELP section...

Second problem: THERE'S NO REAL HELP SECTION!? NO FAQ!? JUST A LOUSY "DO THE HELP SECTION YOURSELVES FOR US GUYS" GROUP!?
Are you kidding me???
Do you even realize that the time you would use to make a real help section is far lower than the time your user support team wastes on replying to the requests? (if such a team exist, I highly suspect the "email support" thing to be a one way travel to an email blackhole)
Then I thought, "okay, done with it, let's move on".

Third problem: NO FSCKING WAY TO DELETE MY ACCOUNT!?
Come on guys, where are your brains at? Hasn't anyone thought "users might want to remove their account if they're not satisfied with our service?"
I work in the IT, I understand that removing an account is not as easy as it seems due to all the relationships the "user" entity is bond to, be it in the DB or in the app.
But come on, I mean, it seems users have been begging for that for AGES!
Is there anyone actually working on this instead of making dumb javscript listeners on form inputs to throw a stupid "cool!" message?

Having this little experience of mine, all I can see here is a FLICKR clone that brings nothing new to the scene, just a web2.0-like empty shell with a CEO that successfully snatched millions of yen from venture funds.

How stupid of me to have tried out this website.
wrote Posted on Aug. 5, 2008 (permalink)
Jeez guys, if you don't want to be here any more then just delete your photos and leave! As for the guy having the error who has not uploaded ANYTHING, you should realize that it does you no harm to be signed up to this website if you don't want to use it. Log out, it's not that hard.

... give the admins a break, sheesh.

AAAAAAAAARRRRGH! i want to delete my account from this shitty service - NEVER in my life have i experienced a web site that won't let you leave. If your sevice is SHIT, your subscribers, customers - whatever you want to call them SHOULD be able to leave! Stop trying to con your investors and give up!

As for the idiot @ chrisdown - such a simpleton..
For you things are just peachy - you simply can't IMAGINE why anyone would want their details deleted on matter of principal..

@mhart ok understand you want change however your use of language is offensive and discriminatory. You are more likely to get people to support you and help you if you are more courteous and present rational arguments.

Agree you should be able to delete your account. As a temporary procedure in your position I would delete my pictures individually so no pictures remain on the site.

Hope this helps would urge you to consider the language you have used above. Terms like simpleton and idiot do not enhance your argument they are terms which historically have been used to discriminate against people with learning difficulties.

EDIT: 16/08/08 Since I originally posted this mhart has changed screen name I wont repeat it here. For clarity I am replying to the message directly above this one

I want to delete my account as well. Simply put, this service is crap. I tried emailing support but go no response.

WTF is wrong with you guys that you don't allow us to delete our accounts? Thomas Hawk, this is absurd. You get pissed off at every injustice ever done to photographers, but here we are, photographers who want to delete our accounts, and aren't allowed. I agree with the above comment, "Not being able to delete our own account makes you feel like being caught by some criminals." Thomas, if this were happening to YOU, you'd be outraged and have a Letter to the Editor in the New York Times by now. Come on, fella, do what's right. We signed up for your application, we tried it, we don't want to use it anymore. Stop holding our photos hostage on your server! This is absolutely ridiculous. -- Deborah Lattimore

I cannot locate the option to delete my account. Could someone please help me with that?

I have received no help from the site, Kris, or any other information I can find.
wrote Posted on Dec. 22, 2008 (permalink)
I want to delete my account, it's insane that you do not have that option. That some serious shady business.
wrote Posted on Dec. 22, 2008 (permalink)
I'd also like my account deleted. The whole thing is fairly frustrating.

Will breaking the ToS help?

I wanna leave too... please let me!

Extremely annoying indeed. Do they really want us to behave like spambots or little children (commenting on the founders images etc.) before they let us be booted?

Can any of the admins please explain why account deletetion is discouraged when these members are strongly requesting their deletion.

Besides I cannot see why the people managing Zoomer would disagree with adding an account deletion link/button in the members account settings after all there is no use in keeping inactive members in this site who constantly complain about their existance.

Another question I would like to ask is why are you wasting your server space for members who do not want to be involved in this site and Im sure the majority of members do enjoy this site.

I would also like to add the fact that requesting a member of the Zoomer staff in order to delete your own account is trobulesome and inefficient. I strongly recommend the Zoomer support staff take this matter seriously and create a account deletion button/link.

Therefore I would request the members of Zoomer to add a account deletion link/button in the members accounts.

Please delete my account too.

I have sat down on numerous occasions with the intention of deleting all of my photos manually but, for whatever reason, it is so sloooow. After about 9 or 10 photos I am ready to pull my hair out.
So I would really appreciate it if one of the admins could just delete my account.

wrote Posted on Jan. 12, 2009 (permalink)
Seriously? I thought this was a joke. For over six months this thread has had people asking to be deleted with no mention of how from staff? This worries me plenty, 'cause I want out now too.

THIS IS INSANE!
I simply cannot believe one is not allowed to leave this site.
PLEASE DELETE MY ACCOUNT!!!

Wow, I was just hoping to delete my account and start fresh with a new one because I didn't like the way mine was going...but after finding this in hopes of getting some help, I've rethought it all. To see so many disgruntled users with no help or reply from an admin, the creators, it really disturbs me. This is almost a slap in the face. I think I'll be moving on to flickr or a different photosharing sight, one that actually listens to its users, respects them, and shows an interest in them as photographers.

Hi
I still don't seem to find the link to delete my account. Please, it is time now for you to understand that you must provide a way for people to opt out of your services. Even Facebook allows people to leave!!
thank you

Please let me known HOW TO REMOVE MY ACCOUNT as the people search for a part of my nickname/username (i.e. maxx) still shows data I previously entered in the account details (such as my FIRSTNAME and LASTNAME) - AND I DON'T IT TO BE DISPLAYED ANYMORE!!!

Suspending an account is really not good enough. They obviously do not care about anything but keeping an inaccurate "user" count.

Haha WOW.. I opened up this account yesterday and Ive been looking for the delete option ever since.. Im so glad Im not alone on this!!! I am so far from impressed on this site! Its ridiculous!
